Latest News

I was out at Double Trouble this morning (Friday) and the trails were in decent shape. Only a few spots where I saw ice. Might be a little different when the packed snow freezes up overnight. It is supposed to be 12 degrees at 9:00am so instead of a long distance run we will be having more of a group fun run. There will be water/goodies in the parking lot, but we will not stay on the course very long (don't want to be exposed to the cold for an extended period). We will plan to reschedule the long distance run in a few weeks. I will be sending emails out with more details.

Who
The Double Trouble Distance Run is open to all runners looking to join others in a long, long training run. Runners may cut the distance short to suit their training schedules. Anyone with long run experience who wants to try the marathon distance and promises not to whine if they get tired and dirty is welcome. Although the trail is wide, and mostly flat, it is a trail run, so there will be roots, rocks, branches, soft dirt, possible critters, pets, puddles (maybe ice) and on the last loop or so, a possible encounter with the Jersey Devil.

What
The Double Trouble Distance Run is a Fat Ass style run, consisting of 8 loops around the 3.285 trail in Double Trouble State Park. Fat Ass style runs are often described as "No Fees, No Awards, No Aid, No Wimps". There will lightly stocked aid station(s) with water, sports drinks, and snacks. Runners are asked to bring water and/or snacks to add to the table.

Self serve aid table will be set up at the start/finish area which runners will pass every 3.285 miles. If you need water or sports drinks more often, you must carry your own hydration system with you.

Where
The Double Trouble Distance Run will be held in Double Trouble State Park, Berkeley Township. The park entrance is located at the intersection of Double Trouble Road and Pinewald Keswick Road.

Directions
Garden State Parkway South: Take exit 77, turn left off exit ramp, travel south on Double Trouble Road to traffic signal. Park entrance is straight ahead across Pinewald Keswick Road.

Garden State Parkway North: Take exit 77, turn left. Travel 1/4 mile Park entrance is on the left.

When
The Double Trouble Distance Run will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009. The starting time will be at 9:00am (early starting is OK - aid stations close after four hours). Pre-run instructions will be given at 8:50am at the Start/Finish area near the park entrance.

The Course
The Double Trouble Distance Run will be run on the main trail of the park, around the bogs. This is a multiple-loop (8) course, beginning near the park entrance. The course will be marked with flags and, weather permitting, flour markers to indicate turns.

Runners will leave the parking lot entrance, heading west on the main trail. Around a half-mile, runners will cross back over the small stream and head back towards the village. Just past the mile mark, runners will get back on the "main trail". Runners will follow this trail over a bridge and turn left. Runners continue for approximately one mile, past the bogs, and turn left at the end of the trail. Runners continue through the trail back towards the park entrance. Approximately one mile later, runners will bear right and head back to the parking lot.

Aid Station(s)
There will be one self-serve aid station on the course. Runners will pass the aid station every loop - 3.285 miles (8 times for marathon runners). Runners needing water more often will be required to carry their own. Cups are not permitted outside of the aid station area, so runners must finish their drink before continuing. The aid station will have water, sports drink, cookies, candy, and possible other goodies. This is a Fat Ass style run, so feel free to bring along drinks/snacks to add to the table.

Cost
We're collecting $0, zero, zip, nada. All participants are encouraged to bring a snack item for the self-serve aid station or the post race feed.
